Plans highlight green controversy
A cable car was planned for Rabaçal to attract more tourism to the area, however many citizens are against it and believe that building a cable car is not compatible with Madeira’s unique forest and natural springs.
Madeira Laurissilva Forest is part of the world’s natural heritage, Rabaçal being one of the habitats of this rare forest, which already attracts many tourists to this spectacular place everyday.
The future of Madeira’s nature has become a growing concern for all Madeira and nature lovers. To preserve what little nature we have left, a group has organized a petition, which will be sent to UNESCO asking for their opinion on this matter and find a way to stop the building of this cable car.
