The Flower Festival, for which Madeira is justifiably renown takes place around Easter each year when the streets of Funchal are covered with colour and celebration. Under the blue-blossomed Jacaranda trees, flowered floats and dancers in traditional dress parade through the city in a spectacular carnival; the highlight of the year.
