Taxis in Madeira are distinguished by their yellow colour and blue stripes. There are plenty of taxi ranks in the Funchal centre, especially around hotels, or you can simply hail one in the street.

Fares in the city are set by the government, and based on either destination or distance. Fares outside of Funchal are generally charged by the kilometre. Many drivers can speak a number of languages.

Taxis are an easy and affordable way to explore the island and some drivers are also available for day tours of Madeira.
